...Clanging Bells of the Morning Star...

If you would like to attempt to transport your mind/thoughts into a similar place as I was, when these ideas popped into my head, then feel free to follow the instructions below. It's best if this is done in a quiet, solitary place.

...PUT ON A PAIR OF HEADPHONES OR TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS' VOLUME...

...TAKE THREE DEEP BREATHS- INHALING & EXHALING THROUGH YOUR NOSE....EVEN CLOSE YOUR EYES IF YOU'D LIKE...

...PRESS PLAY...

...STARE AT THE PICTURE FOR 45 SECONDS...

...CLOSE YOUR EYES FOR ANOTHER 1 MINUTE & VISUALIZE THE PHOTO...

...READ...
-----------------------------------------------
...Clanging Bells of the Morning Star...
-----------------------------------------------
Bell curved mind,
Ringing with lucidity-
Hanging on the crimson thread...
...of sacrificial blood.

Swinging...
Chiming...
Swaying...
On the outskirts...
...of priestly garments
Announcing-
"A holy place is entered!".

Spirit singing bowl,
Humming...
...with peripheral caress.
Stroking fingertips,
In REVOLUTION,
Gliding around the edges...
...of skull bone.
.............................Murmurs of resonating clarity.............

...And then...

Waves transform-
Wavelengths warp.
Crests summit jaggedly...
...and...
Troughs ravine careeningly.

The fluid REVOLUTION
Translates as a strike...
...of staccato sharpness.

Gonging, pot-and-pan, clatter.
An anti-climactic,
Crashing-brass, crescendo.
Piercing dissonance.

Everything...
(even the tinkling of celestial vibration)
...sounds different,
In the vacuum
Of love's absence.

...CLOSE YOUR EYES AND CONTEMPLATE THE WORDS AND PICTURE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO...

  1. I'm sorry if this exercise is tedious...and there may be better ways to do it, but I just wanted to be able to re-present the setting in which my mind contemplated these thoughts...I feel like it really was part of the process and I felt like I should share it as best as I could. Plus, maybe it will catalyze better ways of sharing the space and framework in which things are created.

  2. just got done reading the poem & thought you should know that i did enjoy the process so no need for apologies. whenever i put up a song and an image with my poetry, i'm always hoping that folks will do something along these lines as well though my reasons aren't neccessarily as intentional. i had the dictionary out for this one - was piecing things together bit by bit. was kinda stumped on "bell curved mind" which starts the poem, so it was hard to move forward, but i did (inside burger joke). loved the way word meanings began to unveil the story. though i may be wrong, it seemed clear that this was a reflection on the earthquake/tsunami. if so, i was a bit unclear on the surrounding implications, but was definitely struck by the last stanza as my mind flooded with many of the images & stories i've seen & heard these last few days. i have many more thoughts, but i won't share them here - they would require too many words. enjoyed your poem josh.
